National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, is currently campaigning in the Lango sub-region, a trail he began over the weekend and is rallying supporters around a message of national unity, anti-tribalism, and generational change.
Crowds Welcome NUP Leader to Lira
Bobi Wine drew large crowds in Lira City as he held his second major campaign rally at Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium, where he called for Ugandans to unite beyond tribal and political lines.
He thanked residents of Lira and surrounding districts for what he described as “overwhelming appreciation” of the National Unity Platform’s message, noting that the turnout reflected “a bold statement of hope and togetherness.”
“We believe that Uganda’s progress depends on unity and a shared vision. Our generation must rise above divisions to build a functional nation,” Kyagulanyi told the rally.
On Sunday, Kyagulanyi and members of his campaign team attended a church service in Lira as part of their outreach to faith communities. Supporters said the visit underscored the party’s message of morality, integrity, and national reconciliation.
On Monday morning, crowds gathered at his hotel in Lira City to greet him before the campaign convoy continued with engagements in the wider Lango area.

Visit to Akena’s Akokoro Home
During his journey toward Apac, the NUP leader made a stop at Jimmy Akena’s country home in Akokoro, where he paid tribute to the late former president Dr Apollo Milton Obote.
“May the spirit of brotherhood continue to be the guiding star in our generation,” Bobi Wine wrote after the visit, a remark that highlighted his theme of cross-regional unity and mutual respect among leaders.
The meeting, which observers described as symbolic, was seen as part of NUP’s broader outreach to political figures across Uganda’s regions in a bid to project a national image ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Emphasis on Unity Over Division
Throughout his speeches in Lango, Bobi Wine urged Ugandans to reject the politics of tribalism and fear, emphasizing that a united citizenry is crucial to tackling corruption and economic inequality.
Political observers have noted that his renewed focus on national cohesion comes as the NUP intensifies its mobilization efforts in northern Uganda, a region long viewed as crucial in shaping the national political balance. The Lango engagements form part of Kyagulanyi’s wider tour across northern Uganda, which his team says is aimed at “building a people-powered movement rooted in unity and accountability.”
NUP officials added that the campaign will continue to prioritize community engagement, faith-based outreach, and partnerships that reinforce the message of one Uganda for all.
