President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the people of Zombo District for their strong support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and their commitment to government programs that promote peace, unity, and household prosperity.

Peace Built on Unity, Not Sectarianism

Addressing thousands of supporters at an NRM campaign rally in Zombo, President Museveni said Uganda’s enduring peace is a result of the Movement’s ideology of unity and rejection of sectarianism.

“For the first time in a long time, there is peace in the whole of Uganda, largely due to the principles of the NRM,” Museveni said.

“If you support sectarianism based on tribes or religion, how can you effectively build a national army? The peace we enjoy in Uganda is a result of our unity and the strength of a united national army,” he added.

The President emphasized that peace and stability are the foundations for economic growth and called on Ugandans to guard them jealously.

Zombo Excels in Parish Development Model

Museveni praised Zombo District for its strong performance in implementing the Parish Development Model (PDM), saying it is helping families move from subsistence to commercial production.

Zombo, which has 71,491 households, has disbursed Shs 18.3 billion to 18,646 beneficiary households, representing 26% of all households in the district. The funds account for 97.7% of the total Shs 18.73 billion allocated under PDM.

“When people produce both for food and for sale, that is when real transformation begins,” Museveni said, urging every household to participate in wealth creation activities.

Education, Infrastructure Top Local Priorities

The President noted that the government is investing heavily in education and infrastructure across the district. Zombo currently has 92 government primary schools and 8 government secondary schools, with four new Seed Secondary Schools under construction in Atyak, Abanga, Kango, and Alangi sub-counties.

Once completed, the number of sub-counties without government secondary schools will reduce from eight to four.

Museveni assured residents that in the next Kisanja, every parish will have a government primary school, while every sub-county will have a government secondary school.

Residents Call for Hospital and Better Roads

During the rally, local leaders presented key district concerns to the President, including the need for a district hospital and improvements to the road network to ease access to markets and services.

In a post on his official X (Twitter) account after the visit, President Museveni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing these priorities.

“I would like to thank the people of Zombo for their warm welcome. For the first time in a long time, there is peace throughout Uganda, largely due to the principles of the NRM. The people of Zombo also raised important issues, including the need for a district hospital and improvements to their roads. We will work to address these concerns.”

NRM Maintains Strong Support in Zombo

Zombo remains one of the NRM’s strongest bases in the West Nile sub-region. In the 2021 presidential elections, President Museveni garnered 76% of the vote, while the district’s voter register has since grown from 123,432 voters in 2021 to 149,412 voters in 2025.

The number of polling stations has also increased from 220 to 363, reflecting growing political participation in the area.

Museveni’s visit forms part of his nationwide NRM mobilization tour, aimed at strengthening grassroots structures and reinforcing the Movement’s message of peace, unity, and household wealth creation.
