President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the progress taking place in Moroto District, saying the NRM government’s investments in infrastructure, industry, and human capital are transforming Karamoja into a key pillar of Uganda’s growth.

Industrial Growth Taking Shape

While touring the Yaobai International Cement and Clinker Factory in Moroto, the President, accompanied by the First Lady Maama Janet Museveni, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing works.
He said once fully operational, the plant will produce about 12,000 tonnes of clinker per day, significantly reducing Uganda’s dependence on imported construction materials.

“This factory will greatly boost our construction industry and create jobs for our people in Karamoja,” President Museveni noted.

Population Growth Reflects Peace and Stability

The President also reflected on the remarkable transformation of Karamoja, noting that the sub-region’s population has grown from 190,000 in 1980 to over 1.5 million today, a sign of peace, improved health, and social stability under the NRM government.

He thanked the people of Moroto for their strong support. He urged them to continue embracing the government’s development programs, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), to sustain the gains achieved.

Kidepo International Airport to Boost Tourism

Museveni revealed plans to establish an international airport in Kidepo through a public-private partnership with investors who will also develop hotels and other tourism facilities.

“This airport will be comparable to Entebbe and will attract tourists while strengthening our economy,” he said.

The President emphasized that such investments are part of the NRM’s long-term strategy to modernize Uganda, create jobs, and ensure every household participates in the money economy.
