Senior State Attorney Fatuma Nabiwemba has been discovered dead in her home in Wampewo, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District, after being reported missing for four days.
Nabiwemba, 47, who served as Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (ADPP) in the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), was last seen on Monday, July 7. Colleagues at the DPP’s offices noted her unexpected absence from work this week.
Her neighbors noticed an unusual odor and a swarm of flies around Thursday evening, prompting them to break into her Wampewo home. Inside, they found her unresponsive on the bed, with no visible signs of physical injuries. Police were alerted and responded shortly after.
Official Response & Investigation
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the body’s condition and indicated that detectives had gathered evidence from the scene. Investigators are currently examining items recovered, including a letter from Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) released an official statement expressing its condolences and announcing that funeral arrangements would be communicated later.
“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions regrets to announce the untimely passing of Ms Fatuma Nabiwemba, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, which occurred at her residence. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course,” read part of the statement.
Preliminary observations suggest her body showed no signs of trauma. The cause of death remains undetermined pending the postmortem examination at Mulago City Mortuary.
Family & Background
Nabiwemba had previously dealt with mental health challenges. In 2017, she was reported missing for two months before being found, a situation her husband linked to post-natal depression following the loss of their infant son.
