Watoto Church has announced the dismissal of one of its pastors following allegations of sexual immorality, reaffirming its commitment to upholding moral integrity among its leadership.

The announcement was delivered through a video message played across all Watoto branches on Sunday. In the statement, Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo, Team Leader of Watoto Church Ministries, described the incident as “unfortunate” and a reminder of the high moral standards expected of those in ministry.

“We remain committed to biblical values and to creating an environment where our leaders serve with integrity, transparency, and accountability,” Pastor Rwotlonyo said.

The identity of the pastor and specific details of the allegations were not disclosed, with the church noting that due process will be followed.

A Broader Context of Accountability in Ugandan Churches

While incidents of moral misconduct in religious institutions are not new, faith communities in Uganda have taken increasingly firm steps in recent years to address them. Measures such as temporary suspension, pastoral counseling, public apologies, and structured re-entry programs have been used to ensure both accountability and restoration where possible.

Church leaders across denominations have acknowledged that maintaining integrity is not only a personal responsibility but also vital to sustaining public trust. Many churches have since strengthened internal codes of conduct, formed oversight committees, and improved whistleblower protection for congregants and staff.

Why Watoto’s Response Stands Out

Watoto’s prompt announcement of the dismissal, coupled with its open communication to the congregation, demonstrated the church’s seriousness in handling the matter. By publicly reaffirming its standards and taking decisive action, the institution underscored the principle that leadership in ministry carries both moral weight and public accountability.
